Dell'Orefice Says She Struggles To Maintain Dignity
At 80 years old, Carmen Dell'Orefice is the world's oldest working model. Yet the amazing beauty has no plans to slow down anytime soon ... thanks to Bernie Madoff.
Dell'Orefice reveals she lost her entire life savings to Madoff's infamous Ponzi scheme.

In a fashion world that seems to celebrate only gaunt teenagers, Dell'Orefice is a statuesque anomaly. The New York-born model, who has worked the runway ever since appearing on the cover of Vogue in 1947 when she was just 15, is famous for her age-defying face and figure.
Throughout her career, Carmen has modeled for fashion photography icons like Richard Avedon and Irving Penn, and was once even Salvador Dali's muse.
Unfortunately, it's been rough going lately for the fashion veteran. Dell'Orefice reveals in a new interview that she lost her entire life savings to scammer Bernie Madoff, as part of his $50 billion Ponzi scheme that bankrupted thousands of people.
"For the second time in my life, I've lost all of my life savings," she told the Telegraph.

To make matters worse, Dell'Orefice says is facing the prospect of being evicted from her home.
"The banks always want something," she said. "They're deciding now whether or not to shovel me out of my little apartment."
Now Dell'Orefice -- who is twice unretired -- has been forced to go back to work. Good thing she still has the looks to make it in the fashion world.
"I'm a working woman of 80 trying to work out what the image I can project is," she said. "How I can do it with, you know, dignity."
Dignity or not, Dell'Orefice says she's never been one to take part in any feminist movement.

"I never wanted to be part of any kind of movement - and if you're over a certain age, you better keep your bra on because nothing's worse than saggy duds," she said. "Women have it harder than ever now because they've changed the dialogue, and men don't know what to do when they can't marry their mothers."
